| Hofstra Law Dean Named One of Long Island’s Most Influential Women in Business for Third Consecutive Year |

 Hempstead, N.Y. — For the third successive year, Hofstra Law Dean Nora V. Demleitner has been named among Long Island's Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business by the Long Island Business News.
The awards gala will take place on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the Crest Hollow Country Club. As a third-time honoree, Dean Demleitner will be inducted by Long Island Business News into its Hall of Fame.
"I'm delighted that Dean Demleitner is being recognized for her myriad contributions to Hofstra and to the Long Island community," said Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz. "That this is the third consecutive year she is being honored - and her induction into Long Island Business News' Hall of Fame - is a testament to her scholarship, creativity and leadership."
"I commend the Long Island Business News for honoring women who work with diligence and passion to positively impact their communities," said Dean Demleitner. "I am very thankful for this recognition, and share this award with the Hofstra Law faculty, staff, alumni and students who inspire me every day."
"Dean Demleitner is an enduring example of what women in the law can achieve, and there is no one more fitting for this award," said Bethany Adler, a 2L student and president of Hofstra Law Women. "She is a mentor and a leader, and works tirelessly to help each person reach their potential while attending Hofstra Law."
Long Island Business News launched the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business awards in 2000 to recognize the important role women play in Long Island's economy. The honorees represent the most influential women in business, government, education, and the not-for-profit fields, and are selected by a panel of business leaders based on professional accomplishments, mentoring, and community involvement.
Dean Demleitner became the first female Dean of Hofstra Law School in January of 2008. Since she took the helm, Hofstra Law School has celebrated numerous achievements. Hofstra Law is ranked in the Top 100 ABA-accredited law schools by U.S. News & World Report and has been named as the country's 11th best public interest law school by preLaw magazine.
Under Dean Demleitner's leadership, Hofstra Law has been named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the most diverse law schools, with a student body that hails from 35 countries, 45 states, and 150 colleges. Dean Demleitner has developed a closer relationship with the Nassau County Bar Association in order to increase diversity in its ranks by continuing to increase the diversity of Hofstra Law School's student body. Dean Demleitner also has assembled a diverse faculty of 20% ethnic minorities, more than 40% women and 10% lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
Dean Demleitner received her J.D. from Yale Law School, her B.A. from Bates College, and an LL.M. with distinction in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University Law Center. After law school Dean Demleitner clerked for the Hon. Samuel A. Alito, Jr., then a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. In addition to her duties as Dean, she now teaches and writes widely in the areas of criminal, comparative and immigration law.
